Maj. Gen. Joe Vazquez, Civil Air Patrol national commander, has been voted onto the First Flight Society Board of Directors, which sponsored the 113th Wright Brothers Anniversary of Powered Flight on Saturday in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
Vazquez joins Maj. Gen. Dwight Wheless, former national commander, on the board.
"I was pleased to represent Civil Air Patrol at the First Flight anniversary. It is a significant aerospace education event and one that CAP naturally fits into," Vazquez said.
The celebration Saturday honored the 100th anniversary of U.S. Coast Guard Aviation by inducting Coast Guard Capt. Frank Erickson and Commander Stewart Ross Graham into the Paul E. Garber First Flight Shrine. The keynote address was given by Admiral Paul F. Zukunft, Coast Guard commandant.
