Car pulled from Kalamazoo River; no body found

    March 13, 2017

Crews removed a vehicle that fell into the Kalamazoo River in Battle Creek, Michigan, but did not find its driver, 31-year-old Cortez Lewis of Detroit, inside. After fishermen saw the back bumper and license plate of a Hyundai Sonata where the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek rivers converge Sunday afternoon, a multi-jurisdictional effort was quickly assembled to extricate the vehicle near Hamblin Avenue. Agencies in Battle Creek, Calhoun County and surrounding township and county jurisdictions, including an aircrew from Civil Air Patrol's Michigan Wing, have worked together for a week in search of the vehicle.
