FLORIDA -- Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region (NORAD) fighters will be active in the skies over the greater Chicago area Friday morning in preparation for the next week’s NATO Summit. Exercise Amalgam Virgo 12-NATO, an air defense exercise, is comprised of a series of flights including several types of U.S. aircraft, including Civil Air Patrol planes. It is designed to hone NORAD’s intercept and identification operations in advance of the summit.
